Match Preview

Sri Lanka Women

The state of Sri Lankan women can be gauged by the fact that the side has been able to win one match in its last four completed series of three matches each. These have included losses to South Africa women, Pakistan women, India women, and the West Indies women. If Sri Lanka is able to win a single match in this series then it should consider that a credible achievement. We think if Sri Lanka has to win a match in this series, then the first game is the best chance to do so. This will be the time when England is still getting used to the conditions and may not have a clear handle on the players that they are facing. Sri Lanka’s batting has some pretty decent batters in the side. Players like Chamari Atapattu can be world-class on their day. She scored 94 in the most recent series Sri Lanka played against South Africa and very nearly helped her side pull off a win.

England Women

England women are among the best drilled, paid, and prepared sides in women’s cricket. Perhaps, along with Australia, England’s women set the bar in cricket. It is no surprise then that one of the most successful sides in the history of women’s cricket is the favorite coming into this series against Sri Lanka. The basis of England’s victory against India was its bowling attack. The side was very good at ensuring it did not have too many runs to chase in any of the matches. This will be the same thing that England will try to do against Sri Lanka. Brunt, Shrubsole, and Elwiss will lead the attack for the England women. We like how Katherine Brunt was able to adapt to the slower conditions that she got in India and should be able to do the same in Sri Lanka. We would back her as an early candidate to be the highest wicket taker this series. There is also a lot of batting talent in the English side. Tammy Beaumont, Amy Jones, and Danny Wyatt are the batters that we are looking towards to make the most impact. Heather Knight as the all-rounder and Danny Wyatt down the order are also going to be crucial in providing balance to the English side.

Toss Prediction

The side winning the toss is likely to field first

Pitch Report

The pitch is set to favour the spinners, as is the case all over Sri Lanka, although batsmen should find stroke play easy once they get their eye in. Scores over 200 are considered to be par in Hambantota with the middle phase certain to be the difference between the two sides.
