Match Detail

The Warriors and the Cape Cobras are going to be playing their last group match of the Momentum Cup ODI tournament against each other. The Warriors are currently fourth in the table standings and will want to win this last game to ensure they have no hiccups in qualifying for the Momentum Cup Knockouts. The Cape Cobras have picked up steam as the Momentum ODI Cup 2019 has come along. They have won five out of their nine matches and are in good form coming into the business end of the tournament.

The Warriors suffered a very heavy defeat against the Dolphins in their previous match. The Warriors batted first in that match and was unable to get any sort of rhythm to their inning. Almost all the batsmen in the top-order were able to get a start but none of them was really able to make it count. Smuts made 76 from 99 deliveries and was the best batsman by far but he was also not able to accelerate like he usually does. We think that Gihahn Cloete, JJ Smuts, and a number of other good domestic players makes the Warriors a dangerous batting side but definitely not the strongest one in this competition. The Warriors will need all of its batsmen to continue scoring runs even when the international players become available for the closing stages of the competition.

An excellent bowling performance and a competent chase with the bat was enough to get the Cape Cobras home in their last match against the Knights. Rory Kleinveldt turned back the years and bowled with a lot of fire to lead his side’s bowling challenge. Kleinveldt picked up five wickets in just 8.4 overs and gave away only 22 runs in the process. He was very well supported by Vernon Philander who bowled three maidens to ensure that the pressure was never lifted off the opposition. The availability of senior players like Philander, Kleinveldt, and Piedt in the side is a big boost to the Cape Cobras. Their experience allows the younger players to bowl with some guidance and gets the best out of them as well.
